BuzzyBee Brand Story

BuzzyBee is one of the New Zealand top ten national treasure brands. As a “cultural ambassador for New Zealand”, BuzyBee has an indissoluble bond with the British royal family, including Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George. BuzzyBee has passed on the childhood memories of countless people and witnessed the growth of countless people during its nearly 100 years of history. BuzzyBee has had extensive and far-reaching social influence in New Zealand and European and American countries.

In 1930, the Ramsay brothers, who lived in a small town rich in Manuka, had been exposed to honey and bees since they were young. After World War I and the Great Depression of 1929, the people were dispirited and lived on the edge of starvation. The Ramsay brothers came up with the idea of creating a toy with honeybees as a safe place for children, and that’s how the first Buzzy Bee toy was created.

In 1939, when the Second World War broke out, New Zealand people including the Maori army group once again were involved in the war, the men in the family all needed to go into the battle, they chose the Buzzy Bee toy, which resembled a warrior, as the children’s toys instead of them to accompany their children.

In 1947, when New Zealand economic development took off rapidly after World War II, the baby boom reached its peak, and the toy industry ushered in new opportunities. BuzzyBee also seized the opportunity and became a national treasure brand supporting New Zealand toy industry.

In 1983, Prince Charles and Princess Diana of the British royal family visited New Zealand with the 9-month-old Prince William for the first time. Norma, the wife of New Zealand Governor General Sir David Beattie, presented Prince William a BuzzyBee toy, which accompanied Prince William for 36 years.

In 1994 and 2005, the stamps with the theme of “BuzzyBee” was issued in New Zealand twice, so as to commemorate its contribution to the cultural heritage and promotion of New Zealand.

In 2004, after several twists and turns, the trademark and all business of BuzzyBee were sold to Lion Rock Ventures Limited (LRV), which owns all the intellectual property rights of BuzzyBee.

In 2007, LRV merged Buzzy Bee and six other characters to create a children’s stage play and established Buzzy’s Club, where children tell stories though playing games, and are encouraged to become the next generation of creative storytellers.

In 2010, LRV invited Weta Digital, founded by famous New Zealand director Peter Jackson, to produce the animated film Buzzy Bee & friends and animation videos of emotional quotient education system.

On April 7, 2014, the 8-month-old Prince George flew to Wellington Airport with Prince William and Kate Middleton, and started a 10-day tour of New Zealand. New Zealanders once again gave a Buzzy Bee toy and his “good friend” Oscar as a gift for Prince George.

In 2016, BuzzyBee entered China to create a multi-field authorization direction, and was awarded the honorary title of “New Zealand Cultural Ambassador” by the New Zealand Embassy in China.

In April 2018, Prince William’s third son was born, and the Prime Minister of New Zealand invited New Zealand’s most famous fashion designer to create a jumpsuit of BuzyBee image for Prince William’s third son as a gift for his newborn.

In October 2018, Prince Harry and his pregnant wife Meghan Markle went to visit New Zealand. New Zealand residents gave them a warm welcome as soon as they stepped off the plane, and gave Prince Harry a BuzzyBee doll for blessing.

On June 21, 2019, when Neve, the Prime Minister of New Zealand’s daughter, turned one year old, the Prince William, who is 36 years older than Neve, presented with a BuzzyBee toy that has been with him for 36 years as a blessing.
